JAZZ SUMMER AT THE BAYERISCHER HOF
From festival marketing to artistic direction.
In 1991, the Hotel Bayerischer Hof became a co-organizer of the Munich Piano Summer. After its end, the hotel continued the festival tradition from 2007 onwards with its own Jazz Summer festival at the Bayerischer Hof.
From 1998 to 2013, Katarina Ehmki shaped the festival's development in the areas of press and public relations, marketing, communication and later social media.
In 2014, she took over as artistic director, a position she held until 2022. She was responsible for program development and international artist booking, and expanded the festival to include curated art exhibitions and thematically coordinated film series.
Thus, the Jazz Summer evolved into a personally curated festival format with an international focus, combining music, visual arts and film.

COUNTRY WEEKS AT THE BAYERISCHER HOF
The world as our guest. A combination of music, culture, cuisine and hospitality.
From 2003 to 2017, Katarina Ehmki curated international themed weeks featuring jazz and world music from different countries, with musicians such as Ivan Lins, Rokia Traore, Waldemar Bastos, Patrick Bebey, Tilok Gurtu, and others.
Depending on the concept, local food, drinks and spa treatments complemented the musical program.

MUSIC CRITICS BAND
Music critics play. Musicians are judged.
An idea by Katarina Ehmki and Wolfgang Schmid.
In 2008, an unusual idea arose during a conversation with Munich bassist Wolfgang Schmid: What if music critics themselves performed on stage, and musicians, in turn, wrote the reviews? The night club of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, whose music program was curated by Katarina Ehmki, became the venue. Wolfgang Schmid took on the musical direction, and the jazz magazine agreed to publish the best concert reviews written by the musicians.
The music critics' band made its debut on July 7, 2009. The original lineup included Beate Sampson (vocals), Ulrich Möller-Arnsberg (violin), Ralf Dombrowski (guitar, piano), Andreas Kolb (trombone), Klaus von Seckendorf (piano), Roland HH Biswurm (percussion), Andreas Florek (drums), and Oliver Hochkeppel (piano). The project was supported by Wolfgang Schmid (bass), Guido May (drums), and Peter Wölpl (guitar).

An idea becomes a tradition
What began as an unusual idea in 2009 blossomed into a musical friendship that lasted far beyond the original project. For ten years, the Munich music critics' band opened the Jazzsommer festival at the Bayerischer Hof – an unusual idea became an institution.
On March 30, 2023, at the request of Katarina Ehmki, the band gave a concert in the Night Club to bid her farewell from the Hotel Bayerischer Hof and dedicated the song "Katarina" to her.
